Owning a fitness business is lots of work but as the holiday season and the New Year approach every day seems even busier – Is that even possible?!? With more items on your to do list and parties stacking up how do you get the most out of each day? Focus that is how.

I am the classic multi-tasker, I think that I can do it better than lots of people and that I am more productive because I can do this. Breaking news!! I am not better at it than anyone else and none of us are more productive because of it. Studies have shown that the actual process of multi-tasking decreases your productivity and may also increase your risk of getting sick.

With all the things that need to get down right now how do we do it? The answer is simple focus... We need to focus on a certain task at a certain time. If you need to write a blog post schedule 30 minutes or an hour to write the post and get it done. If you need to contact your clients to see who is resigning for January, or send an email to all your personal training clients about your Christmas special slot the activity into your schedule and focus on completing the task at that time. To have a successful business means juggling a lot of balls in the air but while you are aware of the balls that are up in the air you are only focused on the 1 that is falling to the ground RIGHT now!

How do you apply this to your business?
Create systems and tools that enable to you speed up the process and focus on 1 thing at a time. Here are some of the key processes that you might need to do to make your business grow and succeed:

  1. Customer Management have all your data in 1 place and be able to know everything about your interactions with that member easily
  2. Billing Management billing clients and members can take a lot of time each month never mind the follow up required. The more that you can automate this process the more time you will have to focus on growing your business
  3. Scheduling in any service based industry the schedule is the heart of the business and if you do any 1 on 1 or small group sessions you may spend even more time each week coordinating quite a few different peoples schedules.
  4. New client acquisition we all need more clients but how do you have enough time to find them and convince them to sign up with you? This is one of the hardest parts you will need to have a list of all the ways that you get new business and allocate the appropriate amount of time to each activity.

If you can streamline the top 3 processes you will find that you have more time to focus on #4 and as a result you should see your business get busier every year. Now there is a Resolution I can get behind.
