Fitness Business 3 Key Questions
Posted by Walter Aguilar on Fri, Feb 04, 2011
Running your own fitness business can be challenging and rewarding at the same time. When your clients/members rave about the awesome job you have done in helping them reach their fitness goals, it may make you feel ten feet tall.
However, when you look over your books and realise that your outstanding payments are creating a cash flow problem, it is very easy to feel stressed and disappointed.
There are three questions you can ask yourself in regards to your fitness business that can help. They will give a realistic perspective of your fitness business and enable you to right a ship that is gone or going awry. These three insightful questions are:
- What should we stop doing?
- What are we really doing?
- What should we start doing?
Quite often we know what we are doing wrong but we continue doing it. It has been said that the definition of insanity is to continue doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

If post billing is creating a cash flow crisis maybe it is time to stop offering that as an option. If allowing people to show up at boot camps at the last minute is creating equipment shortages maybe it is time to put a stop that. As the fitness business owner you ultimately have the choice to stop actions that are detrimental to your overall business.
Ask yourselves what you are really doing. Have you become so friendly with your clients/members, so that you have created a relationship dynamic with them that you feel awkward in asking for payment more than once? Have you stopped running a business and started running social club? You may not think so, but the numbers never lie. People pay business invoices but put off paying friends.
So, what should you start doing? It may be time to run your fitness business as a business. Having an online fitness business management software like Volo can help. Create packages that make good business sense and auto renew them so that you start counting revenue rather than chasing it. Online scheduling through a member and staff portal is also another way Volo can help manage your member and staff scheduling needs.
These three questions, if answered truthfully can help you get your fitness business get back on track or at the very least, open your awareness to what is going on.
Don't catch yourself doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result. Stop the insanity!
